Hi All

I bought it as a walking stick or riding crop handle. Seems to be American. Dimentions are 2 1/2 inches (63 cm) long and 1 3/4 inches wide. It still has timber in the 'hole' and a retaining pin.

Thanks
John

John - does it carry any marks? If so, a pix or description would help.

Hi Uncle Vic

No hallmarks, just stamped "Sterling Silver". Was told it was early 1900's

The words "sterling silver" mean its probably American. Many American silver makers produced novelty items such as this for other manufacturers (such as a maker of walking sticks) and did not mark the silver with their trademark, just the words "sterling silver" to denote the 92.5% silver content. So there is probably no way to ever tell who made it and when, although I'd agree with your 1900 estimate due to the design.

Uncle Vic

Thanks Uncle Vic

But what do you think it is? Seems too small to be a walking stick handle and the hole in the end would be a little less than 1/2 inch. Do you think Riding Crop? Swager Stick?

Could be, or maybe on an umbrella?
