Can anyone identify the maker of this vesta case? I assume it is French because of the boar's head marks? The maker's mark isn't however the diamond lozenge shape one might expect on a French piece. I've seen the double boars' heads on French pieces before though have never understood the significance of striking a piece with two of them.

Hi Argentius,
French silver isn't a speciality of mine, but I know a couple of people to ask. The problem is that I won't see them until next week. I'll post something just as soon as I know more.

Many thanks once again, Jonathan. I saw the small print "British Silver" only after I posted. Sorry about that.
Perhaps the creation of a "Foreign Silver" sub category could go in the Suggestions Box?
