I would like some information about a wine trolley or decanter trolley, the trolley itself is a double silverplate trolley with an ivory handle. The two decanters are crystal or hobnail in yellow with etched floral designs in the middle of the bottle. Jere Ann Ocker

From the photo it looks like the trolley is Old Sheffield Plate, which is a type of silver plate that is made without the use of electricity. From wikipedia;-

Before the introduction of electroplating the method employed for silver plating, .... , was to fuse or burn together, by a flux of borax, a thin sheet of silver on each side of an ingot of base metal, generally copper, or German silver, which is an alloy of copper. The silver plates were firmly wired to the ingot, which was then placed in a heated furnace and brought nearly to the fusing point of the silver ....

When cold it was rolled down to a sheet, and from such sheets silver-plated articles were made.


Judging by the style of the trolley, I believe it's probably circa 1825.

The glass appears to be later and has a bit of a bohemian look, I'd guess around 1890 but I'm not an expert in glass. It is unlikely to be English.

The decanters look very much like Bohemiam Crystal.
