How much will the engraving (contemporary with the manufacture date) on a presentation piece of silver decrease the value, given that neither the presenter nor the recipient is anyone of historical note.
I understand that most collectors prefer no monograms, but is there an negative impact on value from engraved dedications as well?
Any opinions welcome. Thanks |

Hi and thanks for joining us. My view remains that artful engraving enhances the beauty - and therefore the value of most silver items.
But that's why they make more than one brand of beer.

It is impossible to give a general answer to your question. As Uncle Vic says, good quality, artistic engraving can enhance value, but some general nondescript design or text could devalue the object. |
