Hi, I'm used to seeing the lion passant and knowing it is sterling, but the lion on the bottom of this cruet is facing right. So...now I'm just not sure what to think. Thanks

A lion facing right is a silver mark for the Dutch. I believe in your case it is 83.5% silver, but I don't know that much about hallmarks to be honest.

Thanks, that is consistent with the engravings on the cruet. I appreciate your response.

On the 925-1000.com web site this mark is identified as a Hanau silver mark, possibly Wolff & Knell. See here and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
