Post subject: coin as hallmark?

Hi, i've recently inherited an old teapot. i'm not certain that it is genuine silver as it doesn't appear to have any hallmarks to suggest this. it does, however, have a copper king edward vii coin soldered into the bottom of it. the teapot also has shield and floral designs on it.

can you provide any insight into the origins of this teapot?
