Help Identifying This Please - Hardy Bros

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this. I’ve compared the hallmarks, and so far I believe it is by the Hardy Bros, circa 1920, silver, made in Birmingham England (please correct me if I am wrong). I have no idea what the D stamp means though. Also, I really have NO idea what this item actually is, so any help on that would be great too. Thanks so much

Sorry the pictures are so large. I should add that it is only 9.5cmx1.5cm, so fairly small. Also, it doesn’t open or seem to have any kind of use at all. It really has me stumped!

Hi there,

The ‘D’ is the date letter. Every time a piece was assayed in England, there was a letter for the year it was done stamped too. It looks like the Birmingham date letter for 1928.

But i can’t help you with what it is sorry!

Regards,
Ben

Thanks Ben. Yes, it’s certainly a strange object. I’m beginning to think it may be a buffer of some sorts.
