Visiting/business card holder?

I believe this is a visiting/business card holder. Could someone confirm, or offer an alternative description?

Size is 3 1/8" (8 cm) by 2 1/8" (5.4 cm). Elasticated band retains some elasticity, but has lost some of its original tautness. Initials on the front of the case are those of my father.

Birmingham hallmark, date stamp indicates 1930.

The maker’s mark, B&W LTD, could be Burtons & Waters or Bacchus & Whitehouse, or some other maker. Does anyone know for sure? The attached image is borrowed from here silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Make … ham-B.html .

Thanks,

By the way, the case is too small to accommodate current-day standard-sized (US) business cards. Cards sized 1 1/2" by 2 1/2" would have been a good fit. If that’s what it was for.

Or maybe a cigarette case? Big enough to hold 5 or 6 unfiltered cigarettes? I’m not a smoker, so not sure of dimensions, but if they were 1/4" or less diameter, 6 would fit.

Thanks,

Yes, it’s a cigarette case. The elasticated band is designed to hold the cigarettes in place.
