I have been told this is silver plated is it worth anything

This is virtually impossible to value accurately. It will certainly have value as an example of early electroplating. The inscription could make it either more or less desirable depending upon local interest. Another factor to consider is the condition of the plating; your picture makes it look as if the plating is wearing thin in places and this could put off potential buyers if it is not just a trick of the lighting.

Thanks for the help it has been cleaned since the photo and looks quite good now I have been offered £50 for it but as cant find out how much its worth not sure if to take it or not
