Help identify if silverplate or sterling.

Hello everyone,

My mother has some silver pieces she inherited from her father. I wanted to have an idea of the value of these pieces just for information’s sake. So upon reading this forum I have discovered that sterling silver from England will have a lion on it. Some of her pieces have a lion on it with an additional phrase in Latin: “Gloria in Excelsis”.

Some of the smaller pieces have EPNS on them which means Silver Plated. However, the pieces with the Lions do not have this. All the pieces have the branding of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company London.

I have attached a picture of the monogram for your help. If you need more pictures or information please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Upon further research, I can conclude that all the items are silver plate as per this website. I think the lion symbol is a coat of arms and not related to the material of the item (i.e. silver or silver plated).
