Hi i have a silver spoon which from matching to other hallmarks relates to Hester Bateman(1761-1790) but the only other hallmark on the piece is a lion. no date mark or assay office mark
could anybody possibly comment and give me an idea also on what its worth
An interesting example of a spoon in transition between Old English and fiddle patterns. I’m pretty sure that this is an example of Hester Bateman’s mark and it would date to the period prior to the introduction of the duty mark in 1784. We occasionally see spoons with only a partial mark like this.
