Chester 1878/1879 pocket watch maker WG?

I attach a photograph of the hallmark on a recently purchased watch.

The Chester hallmark ‘q’ is I believe for 1879 and on another element of the watch there is a ‘p’ in the same font.

I an having difficulty identifying the maker from the indistinct hallmark. The first two letters are ‘W.G.’ followed by a poorly defined letter which might be ‘H’. I have found WGH - without the ‘.’ corresponding to William George Hammon of Coventry registered 4/1875.

Grateful for any assistance.

Yes, the q is the Chester date code for 1879. Your picture is not detailed enough for me to be able to see properly but I think it is very likely that the maker is W G Hammon. In addition to the WGH mark which you mention he also registered a W.G.H mark in January 1876.

Thank-you for prompt reply. Sorry I cannot improve on the picture of the makers mark even under the magnifier it is very difficult to see.
