Hello all, my husband and I recently received this piece as a gift and I have been trying to get some background on it. From research I think it is a George Shiebler design. I have found a design match on the web and it is listed as a possible "Homeric" or "Etruscan" pattern.

What is puzzling is the back of the item says 'JP PATENT 1865' and it is retailed by Tiffany & Co

I believe 'JP' is John Polhamus.

Can anyone explain which of the two designed it please?I have looked it up on replacement.com but can't find anything to match

Also, is this a cake slicer? :?

If anyone has any other details on it I'd be very interested, thank you
