Post subject: Flamingo? mark on American custom-made sterling
Reply with quote

I was given set of Smoking related items of circa 1940s-50s (?) era. Tall oval box with cover (to hold cigarettes) & 2 match boxes. All with large applied Squirrel motif + monograms of first owners also applied to surface. Family who gave to me are American, lived in San Francisco + New York and for brief period also Michigan. Very well known in business and society in USA and overseas. The mark looks like a Flamingo standing on a Capital A, but maker's mark I cannot find in any references. The person who gave me knew these were his parents, probably from when they married about 1935. His parents were given exceptional American sterling for wedding gifts, but also continued to collect thru' their marriage. And typically most of the parents' silver was monogrammed. The giver retained the large oblong cigarette box which can be seen also in photo, showing its squirrel motif. Any help to know the maker would be very appreciated.
