I have cake stand and from the markings (see picture) I believe it is made by Walker & Hall of Sheffield and I think is electroplated as it has A1 stamped on it. Also stamped is the number52176. The thing I am trying to find out is how old it is?

Hi thanks for joining us on silver-collector.com.
You're correct in thinking your cake stand was made by Walker & Hall, but unfortunately the flag mark was used on their electroplate from 1861, right up until 1963 when they combined with Mappin & Webb and Elkington to form British Silverware Ltd. If you could post an image of the entire cake stand I may be able to give you a better idea of age from the style.

From the style I would suggest that it was made circa 1920.
Hope this helps,
