A pair of Georgian Shakers?

Hi,

What a great website/resource!

I got this pair the other day. They are about four and a half inches high. They seem to be missing a date letter and a makers mark. From the the three hallmarks that are there, they seem to have been made in London, about 1820? Are they genuine? Does the lack of the other marks affect value? How much would this pair be worth?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Hi there,
Nice pieces but unfortunatley they have a faux (false) hallmark. These were used to avoid paying duty on the silver. To sell these on the open market is illegal - and would need to be re-assayed with the proper marks.
They are probably 925 silver - but not legally saleable i’m afraid.

John

Hi John,

Just realised I never thanked you!

Thanks! (Even if it is bad news!).
