Hello, I am trying to find more information on a pair of identical forks I recently bought in France.
- Length: 8.3 inch (21 cm)
- Weight: 2.48 troy ounces (77g)
They have 3 marks:
- Badly damaged mark, looks like a fish ?
- WOLFRAM
- A boat anchor
There is also the royal coat of arms. To see the coat of arms the fork must be placed teeth down (french style, not english style).
As far as I understand it, these are not silver but heavy duty metal alloy including tungsten (wolfram), which are probably from the late 19th century.
Can anyone tell me more about the possible origin and use of these forks ?
I am particularly intrigued by the damaged mark. To me it looks like a stylized fish, or maybe an ace of spades, but maybe I’m wrong, because it looks like the part on the left has a central point, not only the top one. Someone suggested a beaver, but the shape is not the same.
