Hello, I bought this fish pin but I don’t know if its silver plated or ? I have no clue when it comes to this stuff. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
The pin is obviously quite small and relatively modern. (post sixties, possibly much newer)
If you think the item might be plate the best way to test is to scrape an area on the back to see if a base metal is revealed.
Without hallmarks it becomes much more difficult to determine whether an item is silver. You need to purchase a silver testing kit, which basically invloves using acid. So you need to be careful!
Even if it is silver, the test kit might cost close to the value of the pin and as such, I suggest that you forget about testing it and just enjoy using it!
