Hallmark elkington

Ive been given this small pot and would love some help identifying more about it please.
Many thanks

Your pot is electroplated - it would have had a hallmark if it was silver. Clearly made by Elkington & Co, a Birmingham company. And in case you missed it they have included their initials, E&Co, twice more. 16724 is a pattern number, but the significance of the “I” escapes me.

Normally it is not possible to date electroplate. However a few companies had their own date-coding systems, Elkington being one of them. The letter A in that shaped box is their date code for 1886.
