Help to identify a candlestick

Dear all, has anybody ever seen a candlestick like this one before & if so would you have any idea when it might have been made? Also without any markings at all how would it be possible to tell if it is silver plated? It looks to me like something that would have come out of the Festival of Britain.

looks art deco to me, maybe 50s-60s? Could be made from chrome though. Best way to find out if its silver, is head to a jeweller who would test it using acid.
