Does anyone recognise this mark?
This is a British Design Registration mark, not a hallmark. A guide to interpeting the mark can be found here: British Registry Date Numbers - at 925-1000.com
It will tell you the exact date when the design was registered so the piece must have been manufactured after that date. The mark will also tell you that this is made of metal, but not what sort of meta.
