help with this lidded box?

My mother gave me this box when my grandmother died. I think it belonged to my great grandmother. I am curious to find out about it and how much it may be worth. I think it might be silver since it is tarnished, but maybe just silver plated? I believe it’s from the Arts and Crafts era due to the style of the box. It is pretty small, about the diameter of a tennis ball. Anything anyone can tell me about it would be much appreciated.

Hi there and thanks for joining us. Its American silverplate by one of the dozen or so “Rogers” companies, probably the Wm. Rogers Co. There is no way to accurately date it, but my guess would be the first half of the 20th century. The number is the pattern number.

Its a long holiday weekend here in the USA and I’ll be away from a computer until sometime Monday.

Regards,

Uncle Vic

Thank you so much! Is there any harm in polishing it?

There is no reason why you shouldn’t polish it, but don’t be too aggressive and expect to expose spots of plate loss, which you won’t be able to polish.
