I have found a pair of candlesticks and would like to understand the hallmarks. I suspect they are silver plate but would like confirmation. I attach a photo of the hallmarks which are not very clear.

I think it fairly likely that this is an electroplate mark of John Nowill & Sons of Sheffield. Can you read what is in the shield shape at the bottom of your picture? I can see an “N”.

That lends a bit more support to them being by Nowill & Sons. It could of course be another, unrecorded, company with the same initials, but that’s unlikely in my opinion.
