I have a very old English or Scottish antique bell possibly 1700’s that has a stamped Maker Mark I’m searching online for, but having no luck. Took a picture and attached. Can anyone tell from picture how old my metal bell might be. Also who the clan or maker might be. Thanks,
This is not a maker’s mark - it’s a design registration mark. We can tell that the design was registered on 6th December 1867. The bell would have been made at some point after that.
(year corrected…)
Isn’t that a “T,” for 1867?
ETA: Ah, beat me to the punch, and edited!
Hey, thanks for clarifying things. If it helps using my magnifying glass
The top of the diamond Roman numerical 1 (I)
Then directly below is a “T”
Mid-section from left to right is A Rd 6
Then bottom section of diamond is 6
Then below #6 is stamped “J” “E” I believe.
So I see the 6 stamped twice, but curious how you came up with the year 1867. In any case I do know the bell is traceable to either England or Scotland origin, but was hoping it was older.
Thanks for the research.
Design registration mark it is and I googled and found out how you tie in numbers and locations with year made. Etc.
There’s a link to the reference page in Phil’s post. No need to do your own Googling!
