Skewered in the New World

This meat skewer is up in seven days. The Auctioneer cannot find the maker and presumes, probably because it comes with other Canadian silver that it is exactly that.

I have listed it under American silver because it is not British. Although this country was a British Colony it is still and was then the Americas. Anyway if anybody can figure it out Ross would appreciate the help.

Whoever bought it either agreed with you or wasn’t prepared to risk it not being Canadian if the price paid is anything to go by.

The case for it not being Canadian is in the relevant period, turn of the 18th century, very few Canadians could have afforded a beef roast large enough to need a purely decorative skewer added for the sole purpose of it being held together while carved in the dining room.

Much less the dining room or someone to hang-about carving stuff
