Agree with everything you have been told except the assertion it is for ice cream. It’s actually a grapefruit spoon. The pointed end is the clue. An ice cream spoon will have a wide, blunt end on a sometimes rather longer handle as illustrated in another Walker piece in earlier response.
Grapefruit was then served by cutting the fruit in half, segmenting the parts in each half, and serving, still in the skin, in a bowl with a pointed spoon to pry out the centre. A rather labour intensive operation which has little or no appeal to the modern juicer in search of his morning K2 shot.
