This is some type of small slotted ladle type spoon, Approx. 6 inches in length.I am thinking it may have been used for melting sugar cubes in tea maybe. This was made by William Briggs & Co. Sheffield England. The information card that came with this has the date of 1904 from the estate sale I purchased it at. Any idea’s what it is? for sure?
Hi Mic,
Generally these are described as sugar sifters. They have been made since the mid-eighteenth century. Originally used to sprinkle sugar over sweets and desserts.
You could build a varied and interesting collection these type of spoons!
