I’m new to collecting and usually I take a file to find out what’s under “the plate” if it’s not indicated, but once in a while I come across a nicer piece and hate to take such drastic measures. So…just wondering what this is for and what’s it’s made of. There is only the word “silver” and the letters: :“L R” . The LR is hard to see. They’re just below the word.

That’s supposed to be LB.
This is a silverplate mark used by the Lehman Brothers Silverware Corporation, New York City.
In business at least from 1905 to 1961.
They used a few different marks. This one is almost always on trays.
