Good day friends.
This fork was “featured” on this forum before. And after some members commented on it, mostly favorably, I called it a day, forgetting to ask the prime question. I suspect it was because the members shared such stimulating views about the fork with me, that I had much on my mind to ruminate on. My two brain cells were overtaxed?
The fork is hallmarked with the maker’s/sponsor’s mark JEB for John Edward Bingham. Other items by this sponsor are marked Walker & Hall, and others with JEB in combination with W&H. How is it that John Bingham elected to have some items like this one marked with his mark, while others had W&H and yet others the combination?
I accept that he was part owner and a silversmith, but why not mark all the items with W&H if that firm belonged to him and his partner anyway?
I really can find no discussion about this in my sources and implore you-all to help out, please!
Regards
Jan
