I have 4 large Sterling silver Candlesticks from Sheffield England. 4 hallmarks HE io in box, Crown in box, Lion in box, I in box. Wondering what they might be worth? Any info would be appreciated. I will upload pictures tomorrow.
We’ll need clear, closeup photos of the hallmark.
But you can look this up yourself. The “lion passant” means that it’s sterling silver. Next, identify the city that assayed the piece. Start here:
The crown would mean Sheffield, so click that link. Now click the letter “I,” and look for a mark that matches yours. Pay attention to everything about it: the typographic style of the letter, the shape of the punch around the marks, the style of the crown mark.
The “HE” will be the maker’s or sponsor’s mark. Same basic process, starting here:
ETA: I suspect your “HE io” is actually “HE Ld,” for Hawksworth, Eyre & Co Limited. And if it’s Hawksworth, the date letter “I” would be 1901 or 1926. Any earlier or later date for that letter would rule out Hawksworth.
