Articulated Jam Jar patent 5518

I also found this jam jar. I looked up the patent and found the below info. Since I’m not an expert but love to know the history of items I find I’m hoping someone can confirm or refute my findings. Thank you for your assistance. :slightly_smiling_face:

Automated Silver Plated Preserve Jar, Birmingham 1900

This mark pic 4 indicates that the item is from A.G. Richardson & Co. Ltd., an English earthenware manufacturer based in Tunstall and later Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent. They operated under the trade name “Crown Ducal” and were known for their aerographed, plain-colored tea wares and high-class dinnerware

This elegant silver plated articulated preserve jar bears patent no 5518 and was made circa 1900. The clear glass cylindrical body mounted with a mechanical silver plated lid. The lid and swing handle allow for the jar to be opened using only one hand. This clever mechanism was created in 1898, granted Patent No. 5518 and produced between 1898 and 1904

Asprey & Co, of simple Art Deco form, the lid having a patent automatic opening mechanism (by raising the swing handle the lid closes, by lowering the handle, either way, the lid opens). This mechanism was originally patented by Hukin and Heath.
