Canadian silver

I know this piece is from the Canadian silver company, but the only pieces I can find with the same Hallmark also have a sterling mark. This one doesn’t. Does that mean it isn’t sterling?

North American companies have an annoying habit (at least to me) of using the word “Sheffield” as a shorthand, or round-about, way of designating electroplate. So your piece is electroplated.

I appreciate it. Especially your quick response.

The other thing to remember is that if a North American company has gone to the expense of making something from sterling silver, they don’t have any motivation to conceal that fact. They’re going to stamp “STERLING” on it, in an obvious way.

Not much info on the Canadian Silver Company except they were based on Ontario mid 20th century. The sphinx is cool though.
