Chester 1715 Hallmark?

I have a matchbox with that I believe is the Chester mark and P date mark for 1715. However the style and maker’s HM mark (Henry Matthews) shows

this to be late 19th century, but the corresponding P of 1898 doesn’t match.

Please help.

The “P” matches that of 1898. Chester used 2 different punch outlines during this hallmark cycle:

Thank you, I appreciate the help.

Dated a silver cover for a modern matchbox really doesn’t require even a rudimentary knowledge of silver marks just a knowledge when matches were invented and the horror story surrounding their early manufacture and sale.

The Notorious History Of The Humble Match.

Which because it became a cause celebre for working people and the union movement is rather widely known.

Canada’s contribution to the match industry was the recently closed Eddy Match company stick manufacturing plant the others of the river to the Ottawa Houses of Parliament.
