Hi Bartholemew. I actually had read both of theses articles, but there is no mention of a number 4 ( or any other single numbers). I assume from the Christofle page though that the piece must be pre 1935β¦
According to AI: A date mark β4β on a Christofle item, especially within a specific shape like a lozenge or rectangle, typically indicates the year of production. In this case, it would likely mean the item was produced in 1844.
A Christofle date mark β4β in a square typically indicates a date between April 1922 and May 1925. The Association of Small Collectors of Antique Silver article on βCATβ marks. Specifically, a square mark with the number β4β on this page from the Association of Small Collectors of Antique Silver is associated with a period of production between April 1922 and May 1925. The size of the square mark is also a factor, with a 2.6 x 2.6 mm square mark indicating a date between April 1922 and May 1925.
