Hi all,
Hoping for help identifying the maker and age of this hinged bangle.
Details:
- Weight: 64 grams
- Metal test: Ice melts immediately on contact - seems to be solid silver
- Marks:
- “SIGRID” stamped inside, opposite the hinge
- “زيت” (Zayt = oil in Arabic) stamped inside, near clasp
- Construction: Hinged bangle with pin-and-chain safety catch
- Decoration: Orange/coral enamel with applied silver-tone Art Nouveau style vine/leaf overlay. Foliate border on edges.
- Measurements: ~6.5" inner circumference, ~7-8mm wide
- Condition: Enamel intact, light tarnish/patina in crevices
What I know/think:
The 64g weight + ice test suggests sterling rather than plated. “SIGRID” was a US costume jewelry brand, but this seems too heavy/good for typical Sigrid costume pieces. I’m guessing Egyptian made, 1950s-1970s, with Sigrid retailing/importing.
Main questions:
- Does anyone recognize the “زيت” Zayt workshop mark? Is this Gabal El-Zayt region, or a specific silversmith name?
- Is this likely Egyptian 900 or 925 silver? No fineness mark visible.
- Has anyone seen “SIGRID” paired with Egyptian workshop marks before?
- Any comps for similar Egyptian sterling + enamel Sigrid pieces?
Any info on the Zayt mark or similar bangles would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
