Engraving on Presentation Piece

How much will the engraving (contemporary with the manufacture date) on a presentation piece of silver decrease the value, given that neither the presenter nor the recipient is anyone of historical note.

I understand that most collectors prefer no monograms, but is there an negative impact on value from engraved dedications as well?

Any opinions welcome. Thanks

Hi and thanks for joining us. My view remains that artful engraving enhances the beauty - and therefore the value of most silver items.

But that’s why they make more than one brand of beer.

It is impossible to give a general answer to your question. As Uncle Vic says, good quality, artistic engraving can enhance value, but some general nondescript design or text could devalue the object.
