Hi all, totally new here but very happy to be a part of this as I have a few interesting pieces of silver and I love to see what others have too.
This flask intrigues me as it feels old and still has a beautifully smooth twist top which indicates how well it was made. I can see that it is English but can not decipher the rest of the hallmark. Can anyone help? There is a Latin motto on the front that translates to “The harvest is mine!” Or something similar but there are no other marks.
Your flask has a Birmingham hallmark with what I am pretty certain is the date letter f for 1905. The maker’s mark, although a little damaged is G&S for Griffiths & Singleton (Wilfred Chidlaw Griffiths & William Singleton trading as Griffiths & Singleton, Powell Street, Birmingham).
The crest and motto may identify the original owner.
The Denny family motto is “Et mea messis erit,” which translates to “My harvest will also arrive.” This motto is associated with the Denny family crest, particularly the branch represented by Sir Edward Denny, 4th Baronet.
