Hi - please can anyone help me identify a piece of Gorham I have inherited. It is a 14" circular platter. Hope the photos will help.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there - your platter was made by Gorham but is not sterling silver- it is silver plated as denoted by the words “silver soldered”.

Thanks for your prompt reply - I wondered if the crest in the 1st photo might be identifiable, or any age could be worked out? Thanks

The crest is part of the platter design and unrelated to the maker’s marks. Gorham was one of the few American makers that dated some sterling silver items, mostly high end holloware made between 1868 and 1931. Gorham silver plated items were not date marked. Because your platter is silver plated, I’d suspect the crest is not a “one-off” but ruather part of a mass produced presentation platterin honor of some historical occasion.
