Hall mark on silver tankard

Could you help me with the attached hallmark,
it shows a lion, a crown an italic letter and the word STERLING,
the object it is on has an inscription dated 1882
and the number 112

Hi there John - your tankard is American and was made by the Peter L. Krider Co. of Philadelphia, PA. The company was formed in about 1850 and continued under the Krider name until the company was sold in 1903 to the Simmons Bros. Co. which continues to produce silver items.

It is sterling silver or .925 purity.

Many thanks for this excellent reply, i’m quite surprised that it is from the USA.
