And just to be really pedantic: this is not a hallmark but a manufacturer’s mark. Hallmarks are only found on precious metals and are applied by an independent body as a guarantee of standard. The term derives from the London Goldsmiths Guild to whose guild hall gold and silver articles were sent for assay.
