Hallmarked “Silver”?

Hello.

What does it mean when something is just stamped “silver”

Thanks in advance.

Arthur.

It simply means that the manufacturer claims that it is silver, but without specifying any particular fineness. In the UK silver items of a weight less than 5 pennyweights (7.78 grams) are exempt from hallmarking and may be marked as silver or sterling by the manufacturer.
