Hallmarks advice please

Hello and thank you for your help in advance. Please can you advise on the hallmarks on the spoon. On the Front of the spoon is T.L.A. On the back is B. H.R & CO.S and what looks like a very worn crown? I was gifted these to sell as part of a wedding gift. Any help very gratefully received. thanks

Almost certainly an electroplate mark rather than a hallmark. The mark doesn’t seem to have been documented so I cannot identify it. Assuming it is British, the crown dates it to before the early 1890s when the use of a crown on electroplate as outlawed. The mark looks fairly unworn so it is also possible that it is not British and dates from somewhat later. There is certainly no indication that it is silver.

An interesting Ebay link, Bart. Thanks for digging this out. I can’t see the Etsy item (“unavailable in your region”).

Kanton Silver sounds suspiciously like one of those proprietary base metal alloys brought out by Victorian and later companies; for example Malinda Silver (Abram Brooksbank & Co of Sheffield), Argentina Silver (Joseph Gilbert of Birmingham), Potosi Silver (Potosi Silver Co of Birmingham), etc, etc… None of these alloys had any silver in them at all. I think it quite possible therefore that these spoons are also a base metal alloy.

Thank You, Phil!

Etsy:

This is a fantastic Vintage Stainless Plate Serving Fish Knife and Fork set that are in mint condition.

The resin handles ( Ivorine ) faux Ivory help set off the Fantastic Stainless Plate Knife Blade and Fork which are both intricately decorated along their edges.

The Knife and Fork set are in wonderful condition considering their age, they would have been manufactured in 1920s-30s when the use of stainless plate was becoming popular by H.R &Co.S from Sheffield England.

Thank you everyone for your help. Lots to research. I think these are old spoons, not Silver. Possibly nickel plated. I cannot find any similar for price match. Ill keep checking ebay. Many thanks all.
