I am thinking about buying a pair of cast silver Georgian candlesticks.
I want to make sure that what I am buying is totally original - can anyone tell me how many sets of hallmarks each stick should have and where they should be located?

A full set of hallmarks on the base, either underneath or around the foot rim. This would comprise: standard mark, assay office mark, date letter, maker’s mark and (post 1784) duty mark. In addition every detachable part (e.g. sconces) should have a partial mark of at least a standard mark plus maker’s mark and/or date letter.
Excellent - many thanks for your help …
