HB&H Plate marks help

Hi,

I picked up a lovely little plate thrift shopping. The marks were originally covered by the price sticker, I think they were wanting to go to someone like me, who bought it cause I liked it, rather than a reseller.

I am curious about its purpose (cause history is interesting) and how well I need to look after it long term (thats where the value comes in… aka not for resell). I have been foraging the internet. Scanned through auction site photos. Looked through hallmark books on archive.org.

I think I have figured out its:

  • Harrison Brothers & Howson.
  • I have had it suggested it could originally be a candy dish.
  • some of the numbers are likely to be the manufacturers SKU number
  • In regards to silver or silver-plated I have done the following checks. It is not magnetic. Ice melts on it super fast compared to aluminium. No evidence of flaking metal. I think someone tried cleaning it with a metal scourer too.

Its about 24cm wide.

Harrison Brothers & Howson
Silver-plated.

How do you know it’s silver plated? I am curious. Thanks
