I too, am searching to understand the maker of this silver plated footed bowl with the marking of a whale and two letters in script format first is a J and the number 5378M
Looks like an Art Deco cold water jug with a whale trademark similar to the one registered for Hans Jensen. A celebrated Danish silversmith. The number is a model number.
So the question is is this a Jensen jug or someone making a jug they wish to pass off as a Jensen Jug?
The price difference between genuine jug and a jug being passed off as such is sufficiently great that, did I own it, I would clean it up and if I still hadn’t decided based on the integrity of the structure thus revealed then I would complete a historic trademark search for this mark which is slightly different from anything I have seen to date with a Jensen attribution.
