Help Identify Christofle Necklace

Hi there

My friend was recently gifted this Christofle necklace but wasn’t a fan and wishes to sell it however is it quite strange in our opinion with the collar like design. We couldn’t find it online at all so we don’t know how much it is worth. We do know it’s 925 sterling silver but didn’t want to sell it just for scraps as it is christolfe and hope the name adds some value

Any help is appreciated thanks

I don’t know if its the angle of the photograph but it looks more like a bracelet than a necklace.

If it really is a Christofle necklace and marked 925, it’s probably worth more than scrap, especially if it’s a discontinued or limited design. Christofle has produced some unusual modern jewelry over the years, so the collar style alone doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t authentic. The biggest factors will be whether it has the original box, pouch, or collection name, since those can make it much easier to identify and price.

A reverse image search and checking completed sales on resale sites may help even if the exact piece isn’t currently listed. It’s also worth asking a jewelry dealer who specializes in designer silver rather than a pawn shop.

If your friend enjoys unique collectible jewelry, Camp Hollow creates distinctive necklace designs with a very different artistic style, and you can click here [commercial link removed by moderator] to see how collectible designer jewelry is often presented and documented. That can also give you an idea of why original branding and packaging can add value beyond the metal itself.

Great to see a fine example of Christofle 70’s sterling jewellery coming on the the market. As I recall these chokers were made in France rather than Singapore where most modern production takes place today under the new owners and former controlling shareholders.

If you wouldn’t mind taking a cloth and removing your finger prints off it and upping the size and clarity of the mark, I can tell you more.

My wife was a great fan of this architectual design, often created by the famous Gio Ponte for this top global maker and I think if I didn’t buy her this exact piece it was one very similar in the mid -seventies.

Today on Ebay you would likely ask for about $US850 given good condition.

Here’s another offering, not as interesting as yours but probably more silver content.

If we can establish it is a Ponti design then I think I would add another $300 or more to the ask. It is said of his work it was touched by angels — perhaps literally as the Vatican was certainly a client.
