Hello, I was hoping someone could help me ID what I believe is some sort of cup. It was my grandmas and we have no info on who she got it from or where. I know it’s silver plated by Reed and Barton but looks nothing like any of their work I can find on the internet. It has “The Angelus” engraved on the side but that may have been done later by someone else. On the bottom it is stamped MFG & PLATED BY REED AND BARTON
And then I believe it’s a number 6?

It’s a vase. As you correctly say, made by Reed & Barton in a classic flared form first beaten into that shape by Roman smiths some 2,100 year ago and perhaps copied off the Geeks or the Persians.
The engraving " The Angelus" refers to a Catholic prayer or devotional derived from the words the Angel Gabriel annunciated to Joseph’s future wife Mary to tell her she was pregnant.
The vase may well have started out life as one of a pair on an altar.
The diligent Franciscan who explained all this to me as a child never really satisfied my curiosity as to what similar platitudes were offered by angelic messengers of the putative father to the cuckolded husband other than Gospeler Matthew’s assertion Joseph learned about it in a dream during which he was told, despite rather lot of evidence to the contrary, Mary was still virtuous enough to be his wife.
