Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here might know more about this piece.
It’s an old Italian serving/salad bowl with a removable ceramic/porcelain insert sitting inside a metal tray/base. It was given to me by an Italian family and the underside is marked “MARTIGNETTI LIVORNO.”
From what I’ve been able to find, this seems to be connected to Martignetti Gioielli di Fabrizio Martignetti, a jewelry and silverware retailer in Livorno, Italy.
I’m trying to learn more about the age, maker, history, possible antique/collector value, and whether the metal is actually solid silver, silver-plated, or something else.
There’s also another small mark that looks a bit like two connected circles, but I haven’t been able to identify it.
Does anyone recognize this style or know who may have manufactured pieces sold by Martignetti Gioielli? I’ve searched online but haven’t been able to find another example with the same mark.
Any information, similar pieces, hallmark identification, old catalog references or auction/sale examples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
