Help needed to ID hallmarks

Hello everyone, I came across an old wall planter set that had the following markings. I was unable to find any information online regarding these hallmarks. Please share any information if you are familiar with these hallmarks. Thank you!

Almost certainly Elkington, Mason & Co., Birmingham, active 1842-1861.

The “Y” is probably a date letter of some sort, but it may not be possible to pin it down. There was no official standard for date-marking electroplate, unlike sterling.

1884.

That would be a very strange date, since Elkington, Mason & Co no longer existed by that name by 1884. The partnership with Mason was dissolved in 1861.

Strange, indeed.

The “Y” would mean 1884 for a piece by Elkington & Co, the successor company to EM&Co. Not the same firm.
