Help on European Makers Marks

Hello. We’ve just joined the forum, so we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the members for any help you can offer us with this and future posts.

One of us is a collector of early 20th-century car dashboard badges featuring Saint Christopher. Yes… unusual… but there are collectors for everything, right? His collection focuses mainly on European pieces (mostly French). However, he also owns pieces from other countries.

Here goes pictures of 3 different groups of badges. A group of French badges engraved by Marius Cosson but with a makers mark unable to identify (A Strawberry¿? B¿?); a group of what we believe are German or Austrian badges marked 835 and with an LF monogram inside a shield and Crowned¿?.

A silver Saint Christopher (patron saint of drivers) for a car. Crafted entirely from 835 silver (beaten and acid-tested) and rosewood. This unique model from the 1960s was dedicated to Mercedes, and is very realistically presented. The entire piece is in perfect condition, perfect for vintage car collectors.

Thanks a lot! Adolphe Soleau was a popular silversmith of French Saint Christopher dashboard badges… so it might be his mark!

And regarding the other mark… yes… we couldn’t find anything, anywhere!!! The badge you mentioned made of wood and silver, we know that was also made in Germany by Victor Mayer (we have one with the 925 hallmark and VM mark.
